What is the name of your state? Florida
I purchased my home 7 months ago. In these 7 months I have been burglarized three times. One burglary was at 1:00 AM while I was in bed. Obviously, I am very traumatized and want to leave this house immediately. I fear for my life and remaining property every day. Just this morning I had to call police because of suspicious characters in front of my home. It may take months for me to sell and I may not survive the wait. Is there any way I can be released from mortgage and this home without severe penalty. I have replaced windows, always had an alarm, installed new locks (windows & doors), etc. I currently sleep with a butcher knife under my pillow. And yes I live alone. When buying this home my realtor did a crime search and there was none in the area. The police have been no help to me and can only suggest that I get a vicous dog. One officer told me because I was on a corner lot, its to be expected. Currently, I am in the process of packing and looking for a storage unit. However, I know that I cannot just abandon the home and I cannot afford rent and mortgage payments. Please help. I am averaging a break-in every two months.

**A: if you always had an alarm system, how did this happen?

**A: you need some professional counseling.

Very Serious

To Answer the first question, Am I serious? Yes!!!!
To answer other questions: The alarm does work and is monitored very well. In fact, the police have praised my alarm system. However, with all the postings on my windows and in my yards it doesn't keep anyone away. In fact every window that was broken had a decal on it. The police said most people think those decals and signs are just there for show.

Any Serious Advice Out there

I thought I'd get something helpful. To tell me to go get counseling, is not solving the problem. The solution is getting rid of the house. I do not want to rent because then I'd still be responsible and I'd be a landlord. If the burglary continues to happen I'll have very irate tenants. I thought I might get some helpful advice about the possibility of me getting out of the mortgage. As unbelievable as my case may sound it is very real and I have the police reports to prove it.

HG gave you the correct answer.

The solution is getting rid of the house.

This is exactly what he told you.

Okay, do the police reports show any suspects?

Any circumstantial evidence left at the scene by the perps?

if you can find a way to stay then add security cameras to the outside of the house and motion detection based lights and remove the stickers from the windows and do get a dog . 3 times in 7 months may well be some one nearby who has been watching your home and could even be the same person each time . Hang in there till you can sell or see fit to fight like hell and hold your ground .

When people break into your home with the alarm system, dosen't the alarm go off and scare them away and when the monitoring company calls you, don't they alert the police.

Burglaries

I've read all your postings and to answer some questions still hanging out there. The alarm is very good, Brinks does respond timely and the police are notified immediately. My response time on the police arriving averages 5-10 minutes. I do have motion detectors outside the home, however no security camera's (quite an investment). Only on one occassion did the police bother to do fingerprinting and there were no results. I have bought new locks, add locks and the only thing I'm missing now is bars on every window and all the doors. I have eleven windows and 3 doors that is quite expensive. The general consensus seems to be to sell, which I had already determined that I would do. There is absolutely no way I want to put anymore money or time into that house. I thought someone may know if because of all this, did they think getting a real estate attorney to fight for a release from the mortgage or turning the home over to the mortgage company was a viable solution. I guess I'm grasping at straws because I just want to be out of that house as quickly as possible. Looking at the possibility of it taking me 3 months to a year to sell this house is very depressing.

**A: calm down and talk to some Realtors.
