What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maine
We had extensive work done on our home due to a fire. We are pleased by the work and we even had extra work done. We told our contractor that any extra work costs that we asked for would have to be paid according to the terms in the contract which stated that unpaid balances would be subject to 1.5% monthly interest (18% annually). We accepted these terms and have been making payments for the extra work completed. It seem however, that we are not paying the balance fast enough < $5000, and now our contractor wants to threaten to put a lien on our property. There was no set payment arrangement or specified monthly paymt amounts. The lowest payment amount per month thus far has been about $200. Can this lien be applied even though we are making payments? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
