What is the name of your state? Vt..... Can the interest accrued on child support be taken off if the child support arrearages are paid in one lump sum? My arrearages are over 7,000 due to interest instead of 5,000 owed for cs. $2000.00 of that amount of cs was due to medical issues back in 2001 and 2002, and the judge found it not willful on my part of not paying. But it has been difficult when I make my payments to get my arrearages down due to monthly tacked on interest by the OCS. Is there a way the court can reduce the interest, or is it up to the custodial parent? Plus if I can show medical problems, (surgery, etc, and how many job interviews I went to during the times I could not pay cs due to being unemployed, will I still get contempt by law? I have the last 4 years of cs payments I made through wage withholding and each year it is only showing I missed 2 to 3 months during my hardship times. As soon as I am back working I am paying. Funny when I had the custody my ex got 6,000 in arrearages and he had no interest tacked on, and no contempt. thanks faith
