What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Michigan.

My ex was found in contempt for violating our parenting time order. The order after show cause hearing notice I got in the mail says this:
It is hereby ordered: mother is found in contempt of the courts order and sentenced to three days in jail. Mothers jail sentence is held in abeyance until further order of the court.

Ok, what the heck does that mean?? She was sentenced but they're holding it off? For what? Until when? I'm confused.

For the record

I want to make it clear, I do know the definition of the word abeyance. That's not what I mean by "what does this mean??!!?!??!!" Lol

It means that they are not going to actually send her to jail right now. They are going to give her a chance to behave herself. If she behaves herself she probably will never have to serve the sentence. If she doesn't, she likely will.

She slips up. One time. A year later. Would she do the time?
It would depend on how the judge feels about the slip up. If she slips up in a month, I could just about guarantee that she would do the time, or if she continues to not honor the order on a regular basis. One year later, one time? That's iffier...and all kinds of factors come into play.

The purpose of the sentence was basically to scare mom.
