What is the name of your state?
Ohio
What actually happens if someone is held and found to be in contempt of court.
Is there a punnishment or something or just a stamp on a piece of paper that gets filed away.
All these problems arise that contempt can be filed for, but what does it really mean or do?
In my case, the court scheduled a hearing against my ex for show cause for contempt for not paying evaluation fee.
Also, I may be forced to also file a contempt for not turning our son over to my mother who was picking him up for me. There is nothing in the CO nor any reason why he should not have given him to my mother. There is no right of first refusal.
Is contempt basically just a way to have someone brought to a judge so they can yell at them and tell them to follow the order?
What are the ramifications of being found in contempt?

A general sort of example...things can vary dramatically:

First time contempt: A stern lecture from the judge.
Second time contempt: Maybe another stern lecture, maybe a fine
Third time contempt: Fines again, maybe bigger
Fourth time contempt: More fines...maybe a threat of losing custody

etc.

In other words, the more frequent and serious the contempt, the greater the risk of serious punishment....even getting jailed is possible, but fairly rare except for being in contempt for non payment of child support.

Why my ex has no respect for the courts

my ex has no respect for the courts because so little happens to her when she lies or disobeys a court order. If the court would just hit her with a fine, or just lock her up for even an hour, she might behave a little better. She's learned there is little consequence for bad behavior.
