What is the name of your state?sc

a quick question. my husband was contacted by a law firm for possible inclusion in a possible class action suit.

the lawyer who met with us told us verbally that the lawyer's fees would be 30% plus $90 if settled or 40% if taken to trial.

yet the contract said 45%. i refused to let my husband sign. the gentleman said, that he didn't know why it said that figure, but it would be as he stated originally (verbally).

i responded that i knew enough to know that if it's not written down, it doesn't exist.
i think we were almost scammed.

should i report him? did he do something wrong? or is 45% standard?

thanks.

You are right in not signing a contract that you are not happy with.

Contact your state bar if you think the lawyer committed an ethical violation.
