south carolina. my father-in-law signed a contract with orthodontist to put braces on his grandaughter. he just passed away but i have legal custody of her. am i liable for the balance of the contract.

No you are not. The estate of your father-in-law is liable for the balance on the contract; however, if the estate does not pay and you continue to use the services, you would likely be liable for work done after the death on the theory of a new implied contract between you and the orthodontist.
