i purchased a car in the state of tn. my contract states that my five year obligation will end in june of this year. my contract has been transferred several times from one finace company to another. the finance company that now holds my title claims that i have another year and a half to pay for my car. do they have to honor the contract or can they make me pay to receive my title.

The fact that the lender was transferring the note should never increase your obligation under it. The issue is what did the note say and have you complied with it. If it said 5 years and you paid all that you were supposed to pay, on time, that's all you should pay. Ask the state consumer protection department if they give you a hard time.
