Beginning in January 2004, my employer converted to Personnal Leave Time instead of vacation and sick time. I kept my vacation time, but my 330 hours of sick time, that I had kept on the books, was converted over 2 for 1. So I lost 115 hours of sick time that was earned prior to the change. How is it possible for an employer to take away an already earned benefit from previous years?

Because nothing in the law requires an employer to carry over sick or personal time. They could legally have taken ALL the sick time away; that is not a benefit protected by law.
