in 1982 i vacated my coop. my then present wife remained there with our 4 children. in 1997 she moved to iowa and sadly a few years later she passed away. i am retired living in florida. in january i received a letter addressed to myself and to her estate. they want me to give them over 8,000 which they claim she owed. i wrote them explaining that i was divorced from 1983. they claim it doesn't matter that i was on the original contract and so i owe this money. is there any kind of statute of limitation on matters such as this. i do not have any money to give them and could really use some help..thanks...

was her the only name on the shares of stock, when she died? when did she die?

What was in the divorce agremeent? Was the co op transferred to her or was it still yours with her having living rights in it?

what happened to the co op in 1997 when she moved out? was it sold, or rented? and who got the money from it?

Has the estate been settled and all the money distributed?

As long as you have had no ownership in the coop then they are just fishing to find someone to pay the bill.

thankyou for your imput. my name was on the original stock. the divorce made no mention of the coop as i had no interest in it and she needed it for the kids. she died in 1997. she left no estate, just insurance money which went to one of our sons.peter
p.s.forgot to mention that according to the coop company she was evicted for non payment of the maintainence fees
