have designed and constructed a computer based system that automates the process of recording an LP album (vinyl) on a Compact Disc (CD).
The system is built from commercially avalible hardware and a combination of Open Source and custom software that I have written. The system is not capable of making more than one CD per album play. The system can not retain or transmit the digital information generated from the album.
The system can incorporate the Serial Copy Management System to generate "original cd format".

Multiple systems can be used to produce single copies of approximately 18 to 100 albums per day.

My question is:

If I make one CD from an album supplied to me by another person, return the album and CD to that person and not keep a copy of the recording, can I charge a fee for labor and the use of my system?

*** As long as the person receiving the CD you create actually OWNS the LP that it derived from, that would be a 'fair use' of the owners property. I wouldn't see a violation for compensation for your services.
