We have a medical book that has been published for over 20 years. Five years ago we changed the entire format and design of the page layout. We added a middle column, where other books are referenced to. It is an unusual format, for a medical book. However, our publisher has taken this very innovative page design, and given it freely to another author they publish. They used every idea, in complete detail. Is this an infringement on our copyrighted work? In other words, can someone grab the design from say Newsweek, and run away with it, doing their own thing with it? The design ideas were NOT the publishers. They were ours. We came up, and implemented them ... giving them a CD to publish from. They did not suggest any of the ideas. However, they have given parts of our design to two books, one partially, and one completely. Do we have any recourse?
Thanks.
