What is the name of your state?

New York/Pennsylvania

I cosigned for my father to refinance his house in NY. I moved to PA 2 yrs. ago. Now I want to purchase a home. I was told that my debt to income ratio had a negative effect on me getting my own home.

Is there anything I can do? He is paying the mortgage on the home as agreed, never late or missed a payment.

He has excellent credit and so do I.

HELP!!!!

Go to a Loan Broker and present your circumstances to him/her and you might find more options than a convention Mortgage Institution can offer you.

Wait I just read your post again and it does not make sense. If he has excellent credit why can't he qualify for his own loan or is he buying way out of his means to afford?

In other words why did you need to co sign for an excellent credit candidate?
