I am a 14 year old in Kansas, and me and my friend both got arrested for possesion of marijuana, and paraphanelia. Someone reported a "suspicious vehicle" that backed up into a dead end, and we were in fact smoking when a police car pulled up and they pulled out guns and arrested us. I was never read my miranda rights, and to be honest I didn't really know what was going to happen. I am probably only going to recieve diversion, but is there any way a lawyer could help lessen my diversion time, or get me out in any way? Thanks!

You show no remorse at all. Have you learned anything from this or do you think it's all about how to lessen the punishment?

My response:that's because you are just a kid and were stoned. I checked my law books again and there is no automatic drop of the charges on account of being an idiot.

People come to this board for legal advice, not to be morally chastised or called names. No doubt this kid's parents already lectured him. The answer is: you can't do any better than diversion.

I'm glad someone else around here has finally spoken up in regards to this issue.

This is a 14 year old who admits he broke the law buts wants to know if he can get his diversion time shortened or get out of punishment in anyway. I can not find sympathy for someone whose only concern is finding a way out without any punishment or a lighter punishment. So what if he got a lecture. Does it sound like to you he's feeling punished by them?

Rochelle, he did not ask for our sympathy or understanding. He asked for legal advice. There are professionals far more qualified than lawyers to give advice on teen drug or personal problems, such as counselors, pastors, etc. If you walk into a psychiatrist's office, you would not expect legal advice, so you should not get psychological advice when you are asking for legal advice.

I love being right. And I'm not arguing this point with whoever. I stand by my answer. Don't like it, don't read it.

Sort of funny

Officers and attorneys think totally differently on same subjects. Just look at the above. I agree with Rochelle on this one.

Kid.....I seriously doubt that your a kid. Your vocabulary is too good, and you use terms that an adult would know, but not a kid, unless he had priors. The give-away was that your supposed to be 14,but you were in a car and driving around. I would then assume that your friend was driving, and he/she was over 16? If this is the case,14 yr old kids dont hang with 16 yr olds.....it defies the laws of nature. Nice try
