A good friend of my sons has just been accused of a class 3 felony computer crime in school. The school officials have said that he is accountable for aiding the main perpetrator of this crime. There were 4 kids that were attempting to hack the school computer system to change their grades. Though they never actually made it into the system, they did attempt to. This friend had no part in the entire situation except for handing one of the other kids a "router." 2 of the kids have gotten off with nothing. The main perpetrator has been accused of a class 2 felony computer crime and the friend, as i said, has been accused of a class 3 felony computer crime.
For the purposes of anonymity, we shall name the kids by letters. A is the main perpetrator, B & C are the two that got off and D is the friend.
Everything started at lunch, which is roughly 11:30, and kid A started setting up his laptop with various attachments inside the main building. B, C, and D walked out to the drafting room (which is seperate from the main building) and began hooking up a router which plugs into the mouse slot. Kid D handed the router to Kids B and C, who began to hook it up. My son walked in and said hello to all 3 kids. Then he and Kid D walked back into the main building. Later Kid D was sent to the principle's office and the police were called.
So my question is, is Kid D guilty of anything? And if so, what and why is he guilty?
