I Live in Florida. I am currently attending a private university in the Paralegal program. I had noticed that on our schedules everyones social security number, adress, birthdate and phone numbers are on them. Now where we are able to pick up the schedules is just a crate sitting ontop of a desk in a hall way. Anyone could simply pick up my information as well as anyone else and very well use it for identity left. My question now is, is my school liable for this even if no one had yet used my information that i am aware of? is there any type of legal action i can take, or would it only be valid if someone had used my information?

Why don't you just ask the person who is responsible for giving out the schedules if there is a safer way to distribute them?

because someone had already warned them about it and still not action has been taken to find a safer way for our personal information.

As the law currently stands, you would only have legal recourse if someone actually did use your information. You can't sue for what might happen.

call FTC

I would call the Federal Trade Commission and ensure your social security number is not protected under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It seems that it would not be legal to distribute people's numbers in that manner, but I don't know. The entire Fair Credit Reporting Act is available online-just google it and you will find it. It is long, but there may be something in there about it.
