Hi, On August...I received a money request by paypal(an online money transfer service) from studio42(an anti-spam website) for $1500!... Heres the email:

"Subject: Unauthorized Usage of Studio42 URLs

Amount: $1500.00
Note: August 19, 2001:
1 Spam Cop Report
2 ZNet Abuse reports.
Unauthorized usage of Studio42 URL:
http://www.studio42.com/kill-the-spam/pages/murkowski-breakdown.shtml

Usage of such material consistutes a legally binding contract at the stated rate
of $500/incident.

If not paid in full by September 10, this will be turned over to a collections
agency, at which time additional collection agency fees will be added to the
total amount owed.

We do have your address, as you thoughfully included it in your spams."

Heres what i did:

I sent 3 UNSOLICITED ADVERTISEMENT emails to someone through bulk email, they reported me for spam to their ISP.

On my emails, I referenced studio42's site/had a link on my advertisement email linking to his site.

The guy that i sent my email to as you know reported me for spam to their ISP, Their ISP then sent the following message to hotmail(which is where my emails originated from) and studio42's site that I referenced in my email:

"Below is a SPAM received by a customer of zNET Internet Services.
It originated from your site, used an address referencing your site,
used your company for connectivity, or in some way involved you.
Please deal with this person according to any AUP's you have.
Thanks for your time and attention to this problem."

Notice they said "used an address referencing your site,or in some way involved you"... Well studio42 then found out that I was referencing his site and requested $1500 because i sent someone else(NOT HIM) 3 emails($500 per incident he says) referencing his website address.

I beleive this is an invalid money request, someone CANT just request $1500 because i referenced their site on emails he dindt receive. Normally ISPs or the state law would request $500 per email for every email that damaged their mail servers etc.....

But this guy requested $1500($500 per email) and I do beleive I DID NOT do damage to his hardware whatsoever but just REFERENCED his website address in an email he DINDT RECEIVE.....

Have you heard of someone requesting money because someone referenced their site? Has anyone else sent complaints about this?

Please advise
