What is the name of your state? California

To settle a debt, a friend of mine agreed to take over payments on a credit card. She was listed as a secondary on the card and made payments (minimum) for approx 5 years, all the bill were sent to her.

But since she has married (to a Doctor), she has decided to not pay anymore, I'm figuring she feels she can hide behind her husbands credit. I'm finding this out 1 year after the fact with the dept now in collection, obviously my credit is being trashed.

Does the above qualify as a Implied contract and is it possible to sue her for breach and/or defamation of character?
