If you are very confident a lawsuit filed against you is groundless. Can you file a counter suit or would there be reasons not to.

A "Counter-suit" is not used to 'counter' someone else having filed on you. It is a lawsuit wherein you are making a 'counter-claim' of damages that you allege the original complainant did TO you.

This is completely different than a Defendants answer, wherein you deny (or admit) the complainants allegations against you and ask that he be forced to prove his claims.
