We got a loan from Linn County Business Development Center and Cascades West Financial Services here in Oregon. We had an extremely good business plan and when we got our loan approved, one individual would not let us follow our plan.

For months we argued and complained about not being able to make catalogs, which is the reason we applied for the loan.

This man came to our house 2 times a week and would not let us build catalogs. He lied to us, manipulated us, deceived us, and neglected to tell us many things. One being that we didn't have to listen to him. He talked us into building brochures.

Five months later we complained to the County Commissioner and we had a meeting with him and he disbursed us another $5,000 mainly for the printing of catalogs.

The county is under contract to have these funds approved by Cascades West, but this $5,000 was not approved. The Commissioner got it to us anyway.

Catalogs were being sent out 7 months late (according to business plan), and the harm done to our business is astronomical!

We are expected to make our loan payments as if catalogs went out 7 months prior.

It seems they are trying to push this trouble under the rug so I called the Governor's office and told him the details of what happened and he replied "the man should be fired". The Commissioner, before giving us the $5,000 told us this man was not supposed to be interfering (micro-managing) with our business only helping us with our books.

We have, and are, suffering tremendously from this problem and many other decisions this man persuaded us to make.

We were advised by the Governor's office and Mae Yih to be requested to be put on the agenda. We did that and we were denied.

We then were advised to ask for an investigation at the County level. This is now in process, but when we got a letter (the end of August) stating they would contact us the first part of September (after Labor Day weekend) it never happened.

They are treating us like we have the plague. We think that because this investigation is being done by the county, that our side isn't going to get a fair chance to be heard. It is like they are grading their own report card.

In the meantime, our catalogs and our business is starting to soar but we are so backed up on bills and overhead and we severely need the margin (outlined in our original business plan..6 months) and they are wanting their payments. I'm looking for someone outside the county who will also investigate this matter. Our business has been so damaged, we are thinking about filing for bankruptcy. Right when our business is starting to do what the catalogs were meant to do. I'm sitting on a million dollar industry, and being new at the loan process we are upset and have proof that this man micro-managed, changed, and manipulated us to not follow our business plan.

If you can help us, and direct us as to what we should do it would be greatly appreciated.

The loan amount was $14,000 + the additional $5,000.

Please check out our website at: http://dougjamestaxidermysupply.homestead.com/home.html and www.taxidermy.net (we are listed there under taxidermists' web pages -in Oregon) just to show you the industry and to show you that over the past 7 years what my wife and I single handedly accomplished from nothing and for what we are possibly going to lose from the advice of a man that claims to know business.

Thank you,
Doug & Sheila James
