What is the name of your state? CT

Following extensive mechanical and body work on my car's front end after collision:
I paid my deductible to the body shop. The insurance issues a check for the rest which I and a lienholder must endorse. I haven't signed yet because they have not received the check back from the lienholder. However, they gave me the car back today with the verbal understanding that I'd come back to sign later.

After leaving, some mechanical problems became apparent (A/C no longer works, steering is harsh and uneven). These two systems were worked on by the shop and are listed in the insurance estimate (A/C compressor and lines, power steering reseviour/pump). And certainly worked correctly before the accident.

I am having my car dealer inspect the mechanical quality of the car given what it went through, with special attention to the systems that I now have problems with. I prefer the dealer perform the mechanical repairs, NOT the body shop.

First, can I legally withhold endorsing the insurance check until these issues are resolved? Second, can I legally insist the dealer do the work and be compensated by the body shop? Also I have not yet contacted the body shop. Is there a requirement to allow them a chance to fix it even if I'm no longer confident in their abilities? They treated the car poorly and did minor damage to the interior and trim in their carelessness (I'm not taking issue with these minor things but I am not happy about it and I don't want them to handle my car again).

Thank you for your help in advance. I did not find a duplicate of my situation in past postings when I performed a search. If I missed a similar post let me know.

You can withhold payment for whatever repairs were not completed. If they said they fixed the A/C, but didn't, then you don't need to pay for the labor associated with that. If they did replace parts, you are responsible for paying for those. Same with the steering problem.

No. The dealer has no relationship with the body shop.

This should have been your first step! Your asking legal questions and you haven't even given them a chance to fix the situation?

You're responsible for paying for the work that was completed. Once you do that, you can take the car wherever you want.
