What is the name of your state?Michigan. I have received a summons and complaint to appear in court for collection on a credit card. Attempted to go through arbitration, but unsuccessful, now debt collector (lawyer) has filed lawsuit. Will I need to appear in district court for this, or will the judge simply rule against me most likely anyway whether I am there or not?

Response: I'm not familiar with the laws in your state, but under no circumstances should you not show up for this. Whether the judge will rule against you, I can't say, but if you are not there to defend your position the judge WILL rule against you and in favor of every charge and fee the creditor has requested. Hope this helps for now. You might want to supplement your question with more info. How long ago did you have the credit card? Did you default? When was the date of last activity on the account? Is there actually a court date on the summons, or can you reply with an answer to their complaint? Good luck. dl
