For standard Homowner Policies, are these dwelling elements covered under coverage A (Dwelling) or Coverage C, (Contents)

Window Treatments (Curtains, Drapes etc)
Indoor window shudders (Wooden blindes)
Septic Systems
Municipal water supply lines, Gas and Electic service lines to the home.

An insurer wants to inlcude the cost of these items in my coverage A amount, increasing my limits and premium. Is this legal?

How can I document these terms to negotiate with my insurer?

Thank you for any advise you can offer.

Thanks!

None of the features have been damaged. The insurer wants to include them in the COv A limits, which will add over 25K to my limits and significant premium.

Are these items specified somewhere? I don't see anywhere in the polilcy that states that window treatments are considered contents.

If the septic system and water lines haven't been damaged, why do you need coverage for them? Flood insurance is the only insurance policy that I'm aware of which considers window treatments part of the bulidng. I considered them contents since they are not permanently attached to the building, and you could, technically, move them with you when you leave the home, although most people would leave them there since they fit those particuarl windows. Maybe that's why your insurer considers them part of the dwelling.

You should go with what your insurer says. You'd be surprised how quickly you reach your Cov A limits in the event of a claim. That's why I always receommend additional replacement cost for every HO policy. It costs 30% more to rebuild than it does to build.
