Lemme see if I can sum this up. I had a secured card through the National Bank of Marin for about 6 months. In this time I recieved my statement twice and one of those times I had to pay an extra $2 just to get it.
I cancelled my card begining of January then recieved a call every other day asking where my money was... I replied "I cancelled the card already and asked for a final bill... There is no note of that? MAKE A NOTE OF IT and send me my final bill or you won't get my final payment!"
After 2 weeks of the above I finally got my final bill in the mail. It was dated 01/17 (and I cancelled 01/09...and 01/11, 01/12, etc) and said I had a remaining balance of $32.64. My total bill was along the line of $300+ but because it was a secure card they would put the balance of my bank account plus whatever interest was learned TOWARDS the final bill and send me the balance. Honestly I thought it would be alittle more, but this is what they sent me IN WRITING.
I made a copy of the final bill, highlighted the word "Final", the date, amount, and sent it in with my check for $32.64. I have heard nothing from them sense, this was 01/20/01. I just recieved a call today 02/10/01 (my usual PAYMENT due date for the card) telling me I'm past due 32 days and have a outstanding balance of $400. Conveniantly they never recieved my payment and STILL have not applied my bank account to the balance which means outragous interest. Within the past month they added on close to $80!!!
I'm about to turn 20 and don't need my credit ruined by these guys, also not gonna pay hundreds of dollars I don't owe. They refuse to cancel my card...they refuse to take the money that is in THIER bank and credit it back to me. They have also been harassing my mother with the same thing...she is a blind bed, riden woman and they are calling her up daily telling her to send her money when she cancelled the card...and the payment wasn't even due for another week if she didn't cancel the card!
Any advice on how to proceed, how to deal with them, and what legal papers to fill out would be appreciated...
