The Question is this: I live in Michigan and would like to sue a credit card company for ~$850. Can I take them to small claims court in my state even though they are headquartered in NJ/PA?
I've consistently read that I can sue "where business is practiced." I'm not sure how this is interpreted, because I can see it as they practice business only where they have a physical presence. I can also take it as they practice business all over the country because their cards are used everywhere and they solicit to everyone and this is "doing business."
Essentially what happened is I was part of a program that paid you back a % of interest you paid(based on years of membership). Anyway I cancelled my account. At the time, I inquired whether I would lose this amount or could I let it accrue. The operator told me I could let it accrue and collect it at a later date. Well I year later I went asked for this money and was told it is not available because I cancelled my account. However during this whole time, my monthly statements indicated that I was eligible to receive ~$850.
