This is not a legal question. If you're trying to game the credit system, you should probably try over on creditboards.com

You are delinquent when you fail to make the minimum payment as required by the contract you sign. The lender is free to attempt to collect whatever they are owed. What they do to collect that is largely up to them.

Can you make a small payment on an account to keep it from going to collections?
If you are already in default the only things that stop the account from going to collections are paying up, getting the CC company to agree on a payment plan, or filing bankruptcy.
