What is the name of your state? virginia

In january 2005 i ordered clothing off of gap.com i had a gift card and placed the rest on my gap card. In feb. when i did not recieve a bill i tried to email gap.com and ask them to send me a bill their response was that they had nothing to do with the billing process, and i would have to wait for a bill.

At the end of march i recieved a call and the gentleman told me i could do an over the phone payment and he would deduct the late fees and service charges from my bill. i told him i did not do transactions over the phone but if he would send the bill to my po box i would pay what i owed him.

this went on for two months april and may. i continued to tell them to send the bill to my po box and i would pay what i owed them. In may i finally recieved a bill and owed 32.69. i immediately sent a check for 32.69 and in the memo space i wrote account closed payment made in full. they cashed the check and now they are continueing to add late fees and service charges to my account [that is closed] and they insist i owe them late fees and they refuse to credit them to my account.

i dont think i owe them anything else who is right?

please help

Look at your Gap Credit Card for Issuer

All credit cards are issued by financial institutions, regardless of whether the card is a bank credit card or a store credit card, so your complaint is with whoever issued the card, not Gap stores.

What type of credit card is it: Visa, MasterCard, AmEx? There should be some info--perhaps on the back of the card--on how to contact the financial institution regarding payment of card purchases, usually an "800" number.

If you have anything in writing showing that you paid the full amount of the bill, keep the original and send (via USPS) a copy of it to the financial institution. Get their postal address--plus an "attention to" name--when you call the number on the back of your card. Make sure you circle the amount OWED and amount PAID to show they are the same.

Your next step is to contact the three major national Credit Bureaus (Experien, TransUnion, and EquiFax--check your phone book for 800 #'s) and ask them to send you your credit report. The first credit report requested from each agency should be FREE. When it comes, mark all incorrect items, and call the Credit Bureaus back to correct any mistakes. If there is any negative info in your report from the Gap card issuer, tell the bureaus what happened and ask them how you can get that erroneous info removed from your report. This might be a long and arduous process, but DO IT. Ignoring the problem will only make it worse.

Hope that helps!
