My question is this:
I am being hounded by credit card collection agencies for old cards that were used during the time of my first marriage, that still have my name in their files. When we divorced, I accepted the tax debt and my ex assumed responsibility for credit card debt, which is documented in our divorce decree.
What is my responsibility in this situation and what (if any) recourse do I have for getting her to uphold her half of the deal and get them to leave me alone!
Thanks, a perplexed muser.
PS. Our divorce took place in N.Y. State

My response:

The creditor is not a party to your divorce agreement. Therefore, you are on the hook to the creditor. Assuming your ex hasn't filed Bankruptcy, you must then sue your ex for breach of contract.
