I just need to find out the law on a credit card co. charging an over the limit fee.After they charge you a finance charge that puts your balance over your set limit.Is this lawfull for them to do.

I have had this same problem. The answer is, of course, in the contract that you signed. Believe me, it is there. So, yes, they can, and they do.
