I just accessed my credit report from experian. (it includes reports from the "big 3") In order to dispute an item if it only shows up on Equifax or Transunion, do I have to access a report from them and/or dispute it directly to them, or can I use the on-line dispute section under Experian for this? (the error reported for Equifax doesn't appear in the Experian column.) Also, many of these items are unfamiliar and not easy to identify. For instance, one entry for name says "BCCI" and I have no idea what this is. It has collection account for unpaid check for FOUR dollars. It says it was left unpaid. I have never had that type of situation occur, so I'm not sure who I can contact. BCCI? Also, some credit cards I used to have, which I paid off and simply never used again are reported as "paid as agreed," but "canceled by credit grantor." Is this seen as negative? Last, there is one particulary disturbing item listed under WENDVR FNDNG (???) as installment loan, closed from 1997 with a balance of 4,832.00, past due 0.00, status transferred to another lender or unrated or bankruptcy. Never had a bankruptcy, ever. What does this mean? Thanks, dl

You either have a merged file, where someone elses data is mixed with yours, or you have been the victim of identity theft. A tri-merge report often lacks critical details so you really need to get the reports from EACH bureau for the full details.

You must dispute items with EACH CRA (credit reporting agency) separately, you can do so on line, but some items you can't dispute on-line, so you'll have to start writing letters.

The best source for help on this sort of thing is creditboards.com.
