What is the name of your state? Rhode island
Im am a senior in high school and for 3 years I and my gaurdian have been required to signing a document stating that we have read my school hand book. For my First 3 years of high school the hand book stated I required 6 years of MATH &OR SCIENCEe now for my senior year they are saying that i require 3 years of math. The problem is that i with the classes i have taken i will finish this school year with 5 science credits and 2 math credits. This means I cant graduate this year with the new requirements. (It is not possible to take double math this year because i go to a Vocational high school and i spend everyother week in shop followed by a week of Double periods). The school says that this was changed by the state but i have been unable to find this information on the RhodeIslanDepartmentofEducation website because the state is in the process of switching from Carnegie Unit based gradiuation system to a more structured system, but i have been unable to find information on when these steps will or have been implemented (i have contacted the department of education directly and they say iit may take 2-6 weeks to get me the information). The only information i have been able to gather is the graduation requirements of the class of 2008 witch is when the new system of credits is supposed th be implemented(I am in the Graduating class of 2007).
Now that I've stated these facts Ill get to my question. Can the school change the graduation requirements in a manner so that a student whould be unable to graduate the year the students and their gardians are informed.
PS I have also seen cases in which a student has been able to have h hearing with the board of Regents (i think) to accommodate certain circumstances regarding graduation, do any of you think this might classified as such an occasion?
I whould like to thank anyone who replys to this with some helpful input in advance. What is the name of your state?
