creditor told others ...PLEASE RESPOND!!

What is the name of your state? GA

My husband has a small loan ($2500) to a online lending place. He got deployed and when he left we had to change to a new bank for his deposits. The lender did not use the new bank account for the draft and since they could not get their money they considered it our fault. Even though I gave them the new bank info previous to the draft time.

They could not reach my husband (b/c he was deployed and we only use cell phones-no home phone) so they called the references he listed for the loan.

They first called his father and told him "we were in arrears of 300 and the account is being sent to collections - could he please locate us for them". Immediately his father called me, while I was talking to my father inlaw, the lender called my inlaws' business partner and told them our personal business..then asked the partner if he could lend me 300 so I could catch up.

Is this legal? I would consider this defamation because we did not default, they made the error. What can I do?

Thanks.
