What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? IN
When an employer says they are going to do a criminal background check, what all does that entail? I have gotten a speeding ticket and two failure to stop at a stop sign tickets over the past 6 years. Do these checks just include issues that were handled by the police and the court system? A previous employer let me go because they felt I was stealing, but no police was involved, so would it show up in a criminal background check?

And the correct answer is....

Whether it will show up or not depends on how deeply the employer checks. Not all background checks are created equal.

If the employer limits themselves to CRIMINAL background checks it probably will not show up. However, not all employers limit themselves to criminal checks. Many do DMV checks as well, and it would show up there.

However, unless you are going to be driving for the company, they're not likely to care.

Why

Why would it show up on a DMV check? Isn't that a check of your motor vehicle record? Wouldn't that just show tickets and such?

You don't think speeding tickets and failure to stops are motor vehicle related?

Well...

I apologize, I thought you ment other information would be listed there and I couldn't figure out why? Would a speeing ticket and stop sign issues really hurt you in a job application?

Probably not, unless the position requires that you drive for the company.

Q: Would a speeing ticket and stop sign issues really hurt you in a job application?

A: It would depend on what job you are applying for. School bus driver? Definitely. Janitor? I doubt it.
