What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
Ontario, Canada
I want to publish a real-life story to a publication that collects inspiring, true stories from youth (specifically Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul). However, the story includes criminal activity that I committed, specifically the use of false identification, underage drinking, and selling alcohol to minors. I have never been charged for these offences. I am an 16 years old and living in Toronto, but I used a fake ID in Quebec during a trip a month ago in July. The supervisors on the trip caught me, but they decided to shelter me and not call the police. Now I'm seeking to publish my story because I've learned my lesson and I don't want other youths to make the same mistake I made, but I am concerned about getting charged on the basis of submitting the story. There is also a $200 reward if the story gets published. The publication organization promises confidentiality to submitters, so only my name will actually be published, but they keep other personal information on file. Do you think it's possible that I can still get charged for criminal activity if I publish my story? Can someone report what I did to the police solely on the basis of the publication? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)?
