Not that it matters now but I am curious if I got the shaft. I am a Canadian citizen who at the time was living in Tx. Went to Canada and married a Canadian. We moved to Tx to live and that is where the fun (not) begins. My now ex husband managed to drain my bank account (solely in my name, set up years before we were married), I tried to get a divorce in Tx but was told I had to go the Canada due to the fact that I am Canadian. However, when I inquired about pressing charges on my (then still legally ) husband I was told that since I lived in Tx which is a community property state, my husband could take what ever he wanted and I had no say. Why the conflict in which laws to follow?
