What is the name of your state? VA

What happened to you? We have met with an atty (DUI- first offense, .13 BAC, procedure not followed properly from their end) and pretty much know what to expect now, but was wondering how it varies from state to state. I was looking for some sort of bulletin board or something online where people actually share what the end result was. Anyone here care to share?

1998--IL
no priors
no traffic incidents
no record
with that**

I was ordered drinking/driving classes $300
attorneys fees $600
court fees $300
license complete suspension 30 days
restricted permit remaining 5 months
court supervision 18 months.
After 18 months, return to courthouse sign affidavit.
Closed.

But this was 8 years ago and the laws have changed. They are much tougher on 2nd offenses, now you lose your license for longer I think.

By the way, I learned my lesson and haven't driven UI since. :)

1st offense got minimum

In Arizona. I was stupid and paid a lawyer who was super optimistic he could get me "off". All that changed the day of the trial. suddenly the best I could hope for was the minimim penalties.
I got $300 in fines.
10 days jail with work release.
Ignition interlock device for 1 year.
36 hours substance abuse counseling.
Find a lawyer who say he can plea you down to the minimul for around $2500.
I paid $6000, should have went with the $2500 guy.

My brother:

DUI March 2006
Refused blood test and PBT.

Got 2 years 'alcohol' probation instead of 30 days in jail (suspended). (No DUI, Alcohol-related crimes, hit and run, etc.)
$425 as a fine
$150 for laywer (1 hour)
License revoked 30 days, but got 24/7 work permit for his 'business', which never operated more than 30 minutes a day. (Tech writer who telecommutes, hires others to do the work at 1/10th the cost, long and funny story.)
Has to keep high-risk insurance for 3 years, but since he's married, over 25, and no prior traffic tickets, only raised his premium to $104/month. He bought a $1000 beater, titled/insured it under his name, and moved the truck and SUV to his wife's name.

The only positive thing that came from his DUI was he no longer drives drunk. He had a disorderly conduct charge dismissed; the genius called the officers who were trying to keep him from killing someone/himself, a 'fat farking pig'. Judge didn't like that. Denied suspended imposition.

He got off easy on the atty though, did most of it himself as ordered by the atty.
(Brother attended the plea hearing, setup own time for dispositional conference, had lawyer attend DC with him, went straight into court with lawyer to plead. Paid fine as he left.)

I recently got my fist dui. Hopefully not to get anymore. I spent 13 hours in jail. I paid $140 to get my car back..I lost my liscense for 90 days but have been told I can possibly get it back after 30 days if I plead guilty. I have to pay a $680. reinstatement fee and go to court on July 12th. (MN)

Be aware that you'll have to disclose this when you apply to renew your teaching license.

Likewise, I hired a lawyer and possibly could have gotten the same without paying for his services.
Fines
Probation reduced to 6 months
Suspension for 1 year, "hardship" license after 90 days
DUI school
MADD Victim Impact Panel
Community Service 50 hours
8 hours in county lockup
Vehicle impound "boot" - waived by PO
Great deal of learning and humbling

Just out of curiosity, how long ago was it that you got your DUI? Last year a Judge in Phoneix tossed a large number of DUI's that involved the Intoxlyzer 5000 because it was discovered that it was basically storing information in two different databases. Defense attorney's learned that CMI (maker's of the Intoxlyzer 5000) along with ADOT had written a "special" program for the 5000's used in AZ. Long story sort of short, State was caught with their pants down and alot of people were given a second chance. If interested do a search for "intoxlyzer 5000 phoenix arizona" you will have no problem finding hits that inform on the details.:p
