What is the name of your state? nj
I am 20 years old. Years ago my dad opened up a custodial account for me. A few months ago i found out the account was closed. My dad won't tell me where the money is. What can I do to get this money back? Also, I have a younger brother (17). There is currently a custodial account for him with my dad as custodial owner. What can he do? Please note that we have both been paying taxes on these accounts since they have been opened as our ssn are on the accounts. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Thank you.

If you have been paying taxes on the accounts, first, I want to ask why (what kind of taxes) and also, why do you not know where they are?

Chances are these are UGMA accounts in which an adult has given money for a child and the accounts are with a parent as "custodian". Usually the custodian will file these returns for their minor children (or at least that is what they are supposed to do if they have to be filed.)

One place where you can check is to see if there are any 1099-DIV, 1099-INT, or 1099-B records for prior years. If dad moved then, they still should show up under one of the other brokerage firms. You can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 to get copies of all the information that was sent to the IRS.
