I live in NC; currently have a Domestic Violence protection order that gives me temp custody of my 5 yr old son. In this order my ex husband is not allowed contact with my son and I. I did our divorce myself and legal custody of my son was not established. My ex husband has a long history of violence; from domestic to manslaughter. I cannot afford the thousands of dollars quoted to me to hire a lawyer for permanent custody. I have tried several non- profits etc. to get assistance and have not been able to. I started my own webvsite www.custodyangels.com for exposure that has not helped me either. Is it possible to file for perm custody of my son without a lawyer? I do not have any contact information for my ex either, so how would I serve him anyways? My order expires April 20, 2008 and I am running out of time. Please help me get in the right direction.
