My ex and I were divorced here in 1994 when our son was less than a year old. We currently share joint custody. My ex remarried and though I have spent years trying to get along with them for my sons sake, the situation continues to deteriorate. This woman badgers my son and treats him badly. There is no physical abuse but my son does not want to stay with them anymore. This is truly not a case of an over protective mom. Even when I speak to her about my son the way she speaks of him is cruel. She is demanding and erratic in nature and finds fault with him at every opportunity. Nothing he does or says is good enough for her and she insits that he is nothing but a liar. He is a straight A student in 5th grade. He attends GATE and his teachers all rave over his accedemics and his treatment of other students. He does not act badly when with me or any family members I have spoke with, including this womans own sister. I am tired of forcing my son to endure this treatment. In my opinion it borders on mental cruelty. Does anybody have any advice?

Have you tried talking to his father? One thing that I would definitely recommend is to get your son into counseling. If nothing else the counseling can help teach him how to cope with her behavior. The counselor can also be someone who could legitimately testify to the mental abuse...which you would need in order to be able to accomplish anything.
