i live in maryland. my son and i before marriage are both from florida. relevant or not? my husband would like to adopt him. my son is five and soon will be six. we have not heard or received any financial support from his (bio) since 1998. court ordered child support was never ordered. i have read possibly we don't need hsi consent and then we do depending on the state. i have checked my state website but haven't quite found an answer. do we have to get his consent for an adoption? are we only left with court ordered child support if we find him and he doesn't consent? could we do a legal name change w/out an adoption. what are our options? my husband has provided full support for my son for almost four years now and has become very attached to him. please help? any advice or suggestions?
