I am a resident of the state of Georgia. I have a ten year old grandson for whom I was awarded permanent custody after both parents were found unfit. One year prior to the court ruling the parents had relinquished all paretal rights to me.I was awarded custody in 1993. Now the mother wants to have my custody revoked. The parents have never visited the child nor have they in anyway contributed to his support. My question is, is there a chance that the court would overturn the original ruling and what do I need to do to insure the child isn't caught up in this mess.

In order to have your custody revoked they would have to have found you unfit(drugs, abuse, neglect) as a parent to the child.
I personally would not lose any sleep over it.. they are wasting their money... as long as you have documentation of the non support or visitation then they are *pissing in the wind*(sorry, couldnt resist been wantig to say that all day) :)

The key here is with regards to the termination of parental rights. Was this done by a court ? Who found them to be unfit and why ? Is this documented ? If the parents were found unfit by a court, then they have no chance at custody.

If the reason why the parents where found unfit ( drugs, drinking abuse ) hasn't changed, they have no chance. But if it gets to court, this may sound mean, but inform them that you will go after back child support, and do it if they continue. This worked in PA. My parents have raised my nephew, and have adopted him. They have had him for 13 years now. If it does go to court anyway, you could keep custody and recieve court ordered child support.
