My husband has a 6 year old in which his ex-wife has custody of. We recently asked for joint legal and physical custody for we are in actuality his custodial parents for he lives with us more than he does with his mother. How do we go about getting the appropriate documents to get this completed for she is not willing to do it herself. She said she will sign any papers she needs to but that is it. I am new at this and I need to be sent in the right direction. We live in Washington State. Please help!

You should retain a Family Law Attorney to draw up the papers. She signs it, a judge signs it and wham, it's done.
