What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? California

back in 2002 i bought a japanese car a 1999 nissan skyline directly from japan, i paid the fees and had cutoms pass it through.
I had the california DMV inspect, smog, and tag the car.

now 7 yrs later i get a certified letter from customs telling me i have 60 days to return the car or face the penalties/car taken away?

I followed all the guidelines, registered it under the 12 digit Japanese VIN,niether customs or DMV told me i could not do it, even the title sent to me by the DMV has the 12 digit VIN and correct information

If your car meets all the relevant standards, then you should have no problem. Contact the agent involved.
