What is the name of your state? California
Dear friends, I received a ticket for CVC 22526A, which means blocking the intersection. I lost it unfortunately. My attorney told me that it carries no points and it should have no effect on my insurance premium. The sad thing is that I was elligible for traffic school, as I have no tickets in the last 18 months, but my attorney did not ask me to take it. I just checked my driving record, and this ticket appears there. My question is. Does this ticket really have no point, and will it really not affect my insurance premium? And what if I want to take traffic school now, I don't agree with what the attorney did for me. I want to go back and take the traffic school and remove this ticket from my DMV record. Can I arrange another appearance with the judge and take traffic school? Your kind answers will be much appreciated.
Thank you so much!!!

None of the 22526 infractions carry any DMV points. Infractions that do not carry a point do not get reflected in the "moving violations" report to the DMV (it's not really "moving" but a "negligent operator" reporting). Your insurance company isn't likely going to find out and traffic school would be a waste of time and money.

Thank you. But the fact that this conviction is still showing up in my driving abstract is making me nervous. I fear that any incident in my driving record could give a chance to my insurance company to raise my premium.

I have had not tickets in 10 years. My premium on my quite used car that I've had 5 years went up 16% this renewal.

I think you need to lighten up on yourself, because your premiums are probably going up no matter what.

So you also received a CVC 22526A ticket and that caused 16% increase in your premium???????

Tried to be a good driver for 34 looooong months after I received my first ticket. I wanted a clean record after such a long wait of three years. I thought finally I would be considered a good driver and will pay less in insurance premium. Boom, there we go, I got this ticket. Whether it is a moving violation or not, it is a perfect opportunity for the greedy insurance companies to keep robbing me for another 3 years. I am feeling so bad right now. My dream of being considered a "good driver" got ruined.

Are you OK to drive?

Just be good out there.

BTW, driver education doesn't have to be a punishment. It can be fun.

Yes, I am fine, thank you. I was being good. I tried so hard to be a good driver. I would blame my attorney, I called him today and told him why didn't he ask me about the traffic school option. I was either expecting the traffic ticket to be dismissed or I would go to traffic school. I called DMV, the lady clerk told me that it does not have a point but will show up in my driving record. I called my insurance company and they were not sure, so they told me to wait till renewal. I called the court, I was told that it has no points. I asked the court clerk if I could meet the judge and ask for traffic school. They said that the case is closed now, nothing can be done. Damn my attorney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope that my insurance company does not treat this ticket like just any other moving violation. I hope my premium increase will not be something crazy.

No, your premium increases won't be crazy.
Thank you. My point from three years ago will fall off from my record by first week of August this year. It was for an illegal turn, with one point. And then this ticket will show up there. Now I hope my premium remains the same. Now, I don't want any discount. I hope they keep my premium the same, and not charge me more. I have not had a single accident/claim in all these three years, and I have paid so much money to my insurance company. They made easy money out of me.

The "point falling off your record' has no bearing on the insurance. Once the violation hits the insurance company in California, what they do with it is entirely at their discretion. Typically you get a surcharge for three years of policy, but that's purely coincidental to the "point record."

But they have already been charging me for the last three years, who gives them the right to keep charging me, will they keep charging me my whole life? It just doesn't make sense. These insurance companies are such crooks!!!!!

They have the right to charge you because they are providing you with insurance. No they won't charge you for the rest of your life just as long as you drive a car.

As your record as a good driver with no tickets or accidents builds they will likely give you a discount. That discount may well come in the form of an increase that is not applied.

Yeah, and these people are such bad drivers...

Maybe you expected your attorney to wave a magic wand and make this go away. It doesn't work that way. You committed a traffic offense, got caught, and are paying the price. It's really nobody's fault but yours.

Everyone makes mistakes while driving. Sometimes they get caught and sometimes they don't. Honestly, you need to just stop whining about it and move on with your life. As PayrollHRGuy said, you are free to look for a better rate from another insurer.
