cyber sex... is it illegal?

A good friend recently confided that he engaged in "sexual" conversations a couple of times via his instant messenger. He has since removed the messenger (and feels ashamed for having had that kind of conversation). His concern is that what he has done is illegal. I had not heard that it was. What should I tell him?

It's only illegal if hair starts growing on the palms of his hands. If the partners are two consenting adults, it is legal.
