damage by roomate

Here's the problem. Two individuals rented an apartment and paid the damage deposit 50/50. The roomate angrily moved out when the other person was not there pushed in a wall and left gouges in the vinyl floor of two rooms. In an attempt to get the person to be held responsible for damages above his half of the damage deposit the landlord was notified and asked to send a bill to the offender. The landlord doesn't seem to want to do that. Is there any way this person can be made to be held accountable for the damage done to the apartment? Thank you.

The innocent roomate can sue -- or CROSS CLAIM against the guilty one. The landlord doesn't care and all he ants is the matter be fixed.

I would sue the ex-roommate in small claims court. Since you are both on the lease the landlord can go after either one of you (or both) to repair the damages. I'd be a lot more careful in the future about picking roommates!
