Not sure where I should post this question if at all, but here goes. My coworker recently had DISH Satellite TV installed in her home. The installer went into the attic to connect the coaxial cables and about an hour or so after he left so we noticed house was starting to get warm. We shut it off the unit since the compressor was not turning on. We assumed that the unit had broken down and slept the night in a hot uncomfortable home. The next day we called an A/C repairman and he went into the attic and said a wire had torn off a relay. We then called the DISH people who asked us not to have it repaired until they could come by and inspect it which they said could be three business days. Since my coworker has young children in their home and the weather is near 100 degrees it is all impossible to be without the air so we had the repairs done before the DISH repairman came over today. Now DISH is saying that since we had it fixed before they could inspect it they will not reimburse my coworker. The A/C repairman is willing to sign a statement as to what the damage to the wiring and relay was caused by the DISH installer during him working in the attic. He also said that this loose wire could have caused a fire if we had not turned the unit off. He said the risk of the house burning down was very high. The repairs to fix the damage were only $190 but these people are on a very tight budget and her husband was laid off a month ago. What are their options if any? Any advice is appreciated.

You'll need to sue the DISH company in small claims or justice of the peace court. Call the court in your precinct - they are very helpful about filing out the forms, etc. to start the lawsuit.

You'll need to be careful to sue the right company, though - the installation company is probably a different company than the DISH company. Look at the receipts for installation and sue both the actual installation company and the DISH company.
