A friend back up into one of the poles with his vehicle that holds up my carport. The pole was hit hard enough that the carport shifted and almost collapsed. Who's the responsible party for having the damaged carport fixed?

**A: he is, so what did his insurance company tell you when you talked to them?

a friend damaged my carport with his vehicle causing it to almost collapse. if my homeowners insurance is not current, will that affect the other party's insurance not to pay?

It has nothing to do with your insurance, it is the AUTO insurance with property damage coverage, and you submit your claim to them directly (or your friend does). Good luck staying friends with him/her.
