Hello,

We are starting a new online game and are wanting to do some market research in the form of an online survey.

It will just ask some thing like "what do you look for in an online game", "how many hours do you play a day" etc. We were also going to put some questions in like "name", "DOB" and maybe "email" but we are concerned about the Data Protection Act (updated in 1998). Do we have to register with the Data Protection Commissioner just for this survey as information like name and DOB might be put in? Even if we are not going to give it to third parties?

No, its not similar. We don't have a "data protection commissioner" here. And besides, the law would be different even between STATES here. You need to talk with a local solicitor or the data protection people to find out what's legal in your country under your laws.
