What is the name of your state? Georgia
I'm 16 and dating a older man, if my family had objections to this, could they press charges against him? I know the legal age for consent in Georgia is 16, but there is a considerable gap in out age. Does it make a difference, or that I'm 16 I'm okay?

Click this link and read the "fornication" story near the top of the page (noting the ages of the people involved were both 16) and you'll have your answer.

{edit}

Georgia must really be a fun place to live, check out these offenses they have on the books:
16-6-16. Masturbation for hire
16-6-12. Pandering by compulsion
16-6-5.1. Sexual assault against persons in custody
(This was such a big problem they had to legislate it? )
:D

There are almost certainly laws in GA that permit a parent to have control over their child. This would include limiting her hours out, who she sees, etc. And if an adult male is involved in any way in permitting or encouraging their child (you) to defy them, the adult can almost certainly face criminal charges. Additionally, mom and dad can probably get a restraining order against this fellow.

And I hope you're ready to be a single mom, because that's what usually happens when teen girls get hooked with an older guy. Statistically they are left high-and-dry holding the bag ... the diaper bag, that is.

It sounds fun and like love right now ... but it is almost certain not to last. And then you will be a high-school dropout without any skills or future, holding a baby or toddler when this guy is in the wind. You won't think so now, but I have seen it far too many times to count.

Finish school, turn 18, then make a decision to effect the rest of your life.

I really appreciate your input about this. I'm not making any desisions now, I was just wondering about the legalities that everyone involved could face.
As for not finishing high school, I understand what would happen if I chose not to, so that's not an option. Either is becoming a young mother.
Thanks again with everything, and just so y'all know, Georgia is a great place to live! Indoor plumbing and all! ;)

Name of my state :pennsylvania

I am currently dating a 25 year and i'm 16. I was wondering if we are legal. i looked it up and it said this,

"3122.1 Statutory sexual assault
Except as provided in section 3121 (relating to rape), a person commits a felony of the second degree when that person engages in sexual intercourse with a complainant under the age of 16 years AND that person is four or more years older than the complainant and the complainant and the person are not married to each other."

I figured since it says AND instead of OR that i would only have to be 16 and i am free to date whoever my heart desires but i am tryin to make sure in case someone doesnt want me to be happy. My parents also do not approve of his age. Someone PLEASE email me back if they know how this government works. [email protected] This would really mean alot to me. Thanks, Minerva

used4 - start your own thread. It's considered poor netiquette to hijack someone else's.

But as has been stated in a myriad of threads on this topic - regardless of statutory rape laws, your parents have every right to restrict contact with anyone. If you persist in seeing this guy against their wishes, they can file criminal and civil complaints against him. Until you're 18, they are the boss of you.

The statute is pretty clear. Do NOT take this as my condoning your behavior....but you're not under 16. What is going on is not a violation of the law you cite and I doubt any other law since the state has set the age of consent at 16.

However to date someone 9 years older at 16 is positively insane. Your parents have every right to be angry and concerned.

Helloooooo Rhubarb. Might want to re-read my first response up there before you say what she's doing is "not a violation of the law you cite and I doubt any other law". (Hint: It rhymes with "snorenication").

You're forgetting Georgia is still 100 years behind the rest of society when it comes to sexual freedom. Heck, they just got rid of mandatory burkas a few years ago :p
